A number of stained glass windows from the old Potomac Chapel (1854-1969) have been stored in the sanctuary furnace room (and seemingly forgotten) for the past 35 years. It has been a precarious place to store such fragile treasures but fortunately they have survived.
Our first goal is to make a cursory examination of the windows and photograph them, and provide a more secure storage space. We will then work with other church groups (trustees, building committee, etc.) to (1) inventory the windows. (2) determine what repairs/reconstruction the windows will require, (3) solicit and make recommendations as to suitable locations in the sanctuary and new parish center for their display, and (4) undertake one or more fundraising events to help pay for the cost of any required repairs/reconstruction to the windows.
A short meeting was held on July 11 to (1) elect committee officers to begin planning our first organizational meeting which is scheduled for July 20; and (2) to get some volunteers to photograph and make a cursory examination of the windows.
Please join with us in this exciting project. Contact any of us or indicate your interest on a blue membership attendance card and place it in the offering plate.
